Second Skin (Derma Film) Application
In most cases, a derma film will be applied to ensure safe and easy healing.
If you received a replacement film:
· Keep the first derma film on for 24–48 hours.
· Peel it off slowly and carefully under running water.
· Wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean paper towel. Ensure no fuzzies or particles remain on the tattoo.
· Apply the second film as instructed and leave it on for 3–5 days.
If you did NOT receive a replacement film:
· Keep the first derma film on for 4–7 days, depending on your skin.
How to Remove Second Skin
1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
2. Remove the film in the shower under warm, running water.
3. You may use fragrance-free body wash to gently massage the second skin off while in the shower.
4. Slowly peel it back flat against the skin (not pulling upward) to avoid irritation.
5. If resistance occurs, let more water run over the edge to loosen the adhesive.
6. Once removed, gently wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Note: It is normal for some ink to come off with your second skin. Your tattoo is NOT peeling off — this is simply excess ink and your top damaged skin layer shedding.
Possible Second Skin Reactions & What to Do
While rare, some skin may react to the adhesive.
Mild reaction (redness, itching, or small bumps around the edges of the film):
· Monitor closely. Slight irritation is often temporary.
· If discomfort increases, remove the film early following the steps above.
Moderate to severe reaction (intense redness, swelling, blistering, or rash beyond the film area):
· Remove the film immediately under running water.
· Wash the area gently with antibacterial soap.
· Discontinue use of Second Skin (do not apply a replacement film).
· Switch to traditional aftercare: wash twice daily with antibacterial soap and apply a thin layer of unscented moisturizer.
· Contact your artist immediately and provide footage (photos/videos) of the reaction. You will receive further instructions.
⚠️ When in doubt, remove the film and contact your artist. Your health comes first.
During the First Days (with or without film)
· Avoid sweating as much as possible.
· No exercising during the first week.
· You may notice liquid (plasma) buildup under the film — this is gross but completely normal. It will dry as part of the healing process.
· The film is waterproof, so you can shower — but avoid direct water streams and no baths.
· After removing the film (or after the recommended wear time), wash with antibacterial soap, pat dry, and apply unscented moisturizer. Your tattoo should be nearly healed by then.

Everyday Aftercare
· No sun, no beach! No friction!
· Moisturize about 3 times per day with an unscented lotion (e.g., QV Cream or Cetaphil) to prevent the tattoo from drying out.
· Do not over-apply — use a thin layer, as you would with sunscreen.
· Don't share your moisturizer — avoid bacteria transfer.
· Avoid direct sunlight and soaking (pools, baths, oceans) for 3 weeks.
· Healthy skin = vibrant tattoo. Keep your tattoo moisturized, exfoliated (once fully healed), and always use sunscreen.
